Danish architect and designer Verner Panton (1926-1998) is one of the most prominent and innovative designers active in the second half of the 20th century. Over his long career, he created an extensive and varied body of work that expressed his preference for bold colours and his skilful handling of elementary geometric shapes and figures.
Furniture was central to Verner Panton's creative work, such as the iconic Cone Chair and the Panton Chair, developed in collaboration with Vitra, which is one of his best-known creations. Verner Panton also designed countless lamps and textile products. The interiors he designed, in which he combined elements from every area of his work into a kind of synthesis of the arts, represent the creative high point of his oeuvre. Examples include the Spiegel Publishing House in Hamburg (1968), the Visiona exhibitions in Cologne (1968 and 1970) produced for the chemical company Bayer, and the Varna restaurant near Aarhus (1971).
Some of Verner Panton's most famous works, such as the Panton Chair and the Panthella Lamp, have been in continuous production for decades or have been put back into production in recent years.
